At Yale, we make Ramadan a spiritually enriching and rewarding experience, even when you're away from home.

Ramadan Programming

  • Dining Hall Iftar and Suhoor

If you're on the meal plan at Yale, you're eligible to sign up for the Ramadan iftar and suhoor. Iftar is hosted at Morse College, and for suhoor, there are convenient packaged boxes that you can take to your room. It's a great way to stay nourished and connected during Ramadan. More details will come as we approach Ramadan.

  • Iftar Events

MashAllah, we host many iftars on Yale's campus each year, whether they're organized by the Chaplain's Office, your residential Head of College at their house, or different cultural organizations on campus. There's always something happening, offering plenty of opportunities to break your fast with the community and share in the blessings of Ramadan.

  • Community Suhoor

We have a beautiful tradition at Yale where some of the talented chefs in our student community cook Suhoor for everyone during the last 10 nights of Ramadan. It's a special time when the community comes together to share meals and support one another in these blessed nights. For those hidden chefs in our community, please reach out—the Suhoor Community needs you!

  • Daily Taraweeh

Alhamdulillah, we have nightly Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan at Yale, where students lead with beautiful and inspiring recitations. It's a special opportunity to engage in prayer and reflection together during this blessed month. We do not pray with Khatm (Completion of the Quran), but pray the full 20 rakaat while trying to keep them manageable for the busy students that we are. We pray in the beautiful halls of Dwight Chapel!

  • Qiyam and 27th Night

The last 10 nights of Ramadan present our community with a blessed opportunity that must be seized. In addition to Taraweeh, we schedule Qiyam for the last third of the night, on every odd night at minimum but often for all 10 days inshAllah. Student reciters take the lead here once again. Prayers occur either in the Musalla or in Dwight Chapel!

On the 27th night, a night that is possibly the blessed night of decree, we host a special night of programming. We start off by praying Taraweeh with all of Juz 30, then following a pleasant break with refreshments, we return as a congregation to listen to profound spiritual reflections, engage in Dhikr, and even join each other in singing Nasheed. We finish off the night with Qiyaam and Community Suhoor. Allahumma Ballighna Ramadan!
